Introducing udandi & her lunchbag

2 Sisters & a Blog

Hello, I’m Andi or udandi because I am a University of Dayton alum. I live in Cincinnati and pack my lunch almost daily in red insulated bag decorated with vegetables aka Red Veggie Bag (from Thirty-One Gifts). I work full-time as a librarian, write this blog, and write udandi (udandi is pronounced “you dandy”), which has been online since 2006.

The pattern isn’t exactly my style, but I chose it for its functionality. For example, I wanted a bag large enough to hold multiple Pyrex containers without shifting during my commute. My previous bag was built like a suitcase – the handle was sewn on one side so when I picked it up all contents shifted to the side (which became the bottom) and if I had leaky dishes that was a problem. I’d show you a photo of this ill-fated design but I passed it on to FM when her lunchbag of the same style met its demise (a story we should try to get her tell) and she needed something in a pinch.

I have fierce appreciation for new Pyrex dishes with the plastic lids and while I like the old Pyrex they just don’t work well for packed lunches, but look great in my kitchen! I’ve never met a BLT I haven’t enjoyed, especially if it is served on pretzel bread. I start most days with a banana and I drink water with most meals, but Coca-Cola is my mistress.

Lin, my old coworker, and I had a secret language — it is an arm twisting motion and that means one of wants to leave the building and eat out (we worked together as public service librarians, some times you just want to escape). But I’m proud to say since we started of Lunch It, Punch It we decreased our arm-twisting because we want to earn our packed lunches and had to find others ways to cope with work stress.

Since I have been blogging recipes for a while, I may recycle some content, but look for a fresh post from me tomorrow and I look forward to sharing my love of packed lunches on this blog. Please come back this week and meet my co-authors (and coworkers), FM and Lin.

If you haven’t already, print the official Lunch It Punch It card so you can track your lunch packing progress.

  4. What are these cool new pyrex you speak of? I like plastic but you can only microwave in them twice before those yucky bubbles form or once if you pack anything red-based.
